Regarding the move to the hybrid teaching model

March 11, 2021

Parents and Students:

As we begin the fourth quarter of the 20-21 school year at Swainston Middle School, and as we prepare for the return of students following the hybrid schedule, it is necessary for ALL students to follow the new bell schedule. This schedule will accommodate all cohorts once we transition to the hybrid schedule later in March and April.

As we begin the fourth quarter of the 20-21 school year at Swainston Middle School, and as we prepare for the return of students following the hybrid schedule, it is necessary for ALL

students to follow the new bell schedule. This schedule will accommodate all cohorts once we transition to the hybrid schedule later in March and April.

Students will begin morning classes at 8:00 AM daily with direct academic instruction.  Morning classes will each run one hour and 45 minutes with a 10 minute break between. Students will conclude the second morning class at 11:40 AM.  Students will have lunch and have the opportunity to visit with teachers as needed until 2:11

The remaining classes will begin at 1:06 until 2:11 until our dismissal. Classes are shorter in the afternoon, however the order of classes will change the following day. This allows for a balance of synchronous minutes of instruction over the two days.

On Mondays students will attend periods 1-2 in the AM, periods 3-4 after lunch. On Tuesday, students will attend periods 3 -4 in the morning with periods 1-2 in the afternoon.

Students will follow the schedule on Wednesdays as noted on the attached schedule. All synchronous instruction on Wednesday will conclude by 10:10 AM. Followed by lunch.

Thursday and Friday students will repeat the Monday / Tuesday schedule.

Students will continue to log into classes using Google Meet/Canvas and the class codes as they have always done. Teachers will not be changing the log on codes.

The week of March 22nd, all sixth grade students on Cohorts A and B will begin face to face instruction. Specific details will be sent to each Cohort group.  The week of April 6th, seventh and eighth grade students on Cohorts A and B will begin face to face instruction. Specific information will be sent to each Cohort Group. With that information, you will also receive your assigned Cohorts.

Please mark your calendars and make all necessary arrangements for Monday, March 15th as we begin the new bell schedule.  Again, students will remain at home on Distance Learning during this week, but simply follow the new bell schedule. Cohort information will be going home by the end of this week. If you have questions, please contact the office at 702-799-4860.

Thank you for your support as we transition to face to face instruction. We are excited and looking forward to this new opportunity.

Sincerely,
