Regarding the move to the hybrid teaching model

March 2, 2021

Parents and Students:

Clark County School District Superintendent Dr. Jesus Jara has announced the schedule for the reopening of schools. We are very excited to have this opportunity to meet with our students face to face within the hybrid model. Swainston Middle School will transition to the new schedule on Monday, March 22, 2021. This is when we welcome our sixth grade students to campus if they have selected Cohorts A and B. We will continue to provide the same academic rigor for all students in all Cohorts.
All students will continue to have four classes each day. Students selecting Cohorts A and B will attend classes on campus for only two periods per day in the morning. Students will be dismissed for lunch, and their remaining two classes for the day will be at home continuing with distance education. Students will not be on campus for the entire day. The schedule will rotate so students will see each teacher in person one time per week.

Teachers will continue to provide synchronous or direct instruction to all students for the first 30 – 50 minutes of each class whether in person or through distance education.
Please click the link below to see the attached daily schedule for all Cohorts.

If you did not complete the district wide survey taken in November 2020, please use the attached link to select a cohort. Please make your selection by Friday, March 5, 2021. If you do not complete this survey by Friday, March 5, 2021 you will be placed in Cohort C. Cohort requests and transportation is not guaranteed.

Please note the attached daily bell schedule will begin the week of March 22nd, when our sixth grade students return to campus if they have selected Cohorts A and B. If you selected Cohort C, you will also follow the attached bell schedule while continuing with distance education. The bell schedule has changed for all students to support the hybrid learning model.

As we receive additional information, we will continue to share that with you and will be able to answer all of your questions. Please follow the Swainston website at swainstonms.org for up to date information. As of today, we know that our sixth grade students, who have chosen to return to campus on the hybrid model, will return the week of March 22nd. Seventh and eighth grade students that have chosen to return to campus will transition from distance learning, beginning the week of April 6, just after Spring Break. Our staff will return to campus on March 15th to prepare for the re-opening.

Thank you for your support as we all transition to the hybrid learning model. We are excited and anxious to have our students on campus.
Thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Lori Desiderato
